Severe Weather Today/Tonight ⚡
A few showers/t’storms are ongoing across the state as we work into early this afternoon, remnants of the widespread activity that occurred overnight and into earlier this morning. Some of this activity will continue to linger through the day across portions of the state.
The main focus turns to a strong disturbance (MCV) located near Omaha as of early this afternoon. This disturbance is expected to become the focus for a new round of t’storm/severe t’storm development sometime between later this afternoon and this evening across portions of Iowa and Northern Missouri. This activity is expected to grow upscale into a complex (MCS), which will then track generally eastward across a good portion of Northern and Central Illinois tonight. A severe weather threat will accompany this activity, with the greatest potential favored across Western Illinois and vicinity.
In addition to the severe weather threat, heavy rainfall will also be possible. Given the repeated rounds of heavy rainfall across portions of the state recently, localized flooding will once again become a concern tonight.
