New Years Eve/Day 2023/2024 Forecast

    (8:30PM – Saturday, December 30th, 2023) A brief look at the weather conditions expected across the state for New Year’s Eve, Sunday, December 31st, and New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1st.

    A seasonable New Year’s period is on tap, with seasonable temperatures expected across the state both days, which is a big change from the near-record-breaking mild temperatures that occurred over the Christmas period across the state. A bit of mixed precipitation is expected across portions of the state on New Year’s Eve, with dry conditions on New Year’s Day across the state.

    Daytime high temperatures for both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day are expected to be seasonable overall across the state. On New Year’s Eve across the state, high temperatures will range generally in the 30’s, potentially cracking 40 in Southern Illinois. Low temperatures for the midnight countdown and overall Sunday night will range from the mid-20’s to the low-30’s across the state. On New Year’s Day across the state, high temperatures will range generally in the 30’s, potentially cracking 40 in Southern Illinois.

    On New Year’s Eve, cloudy skies are expected across the state, with mixed precipitation (Rain/Freezing Rain/Snow) expected across portions of Northern and Central Illinois. Minor snowfall accumulation of a dusting and ice accumulation of a glaze can be expected for some affected areas. For the midnight countdown, generally dry conditions are expected across the state, with potentially a few lingering snow showers across Northeastern Illinois. Dry conditions are expected across the state for New Year’s Day, with mostly cloudy to cloudy skies.
