Sun-Tue, March 31-April 2nd Severe T’Storm Event Update #5

(11:00PM – Sunday, March 31st, 2024) Sunday night update on a storm system moving through the region that will continue to bring several rounds of rain and t’storms, with the potential for severe t’storms, to portions of the state from through late Tuesday.

Update…
•With this update, severe t’storm probabilities on tonight’s severe t’storm forecast have been adjusted based on real time data and trends.
•With this update, we have expanded higher severe t’storm probabilities across portions of the state on the severe t’storm forecast for Monday/Monday night.
•With this update, we have issued our initial severe t’storm forecast for Monday/Monday night..

Timing & Location…
•Tonight – Monday Morning, March 31st-April 1st: Central Illinois.
•Monday Morning – Tuesday Morning, April 1-2nd: Central & Southern Illinois
•Tuesday Morning – Tuesday Evening, April 2nd: Eastern & Southern Illinois

Impacts…
•A level 1 severe t’storm risk is in place across Central Illinois from tonight through Monday morning. Isolated severe t’storms will be possible, posing a risk of large hail and damaging winds. Scattered showers and t’storms will continue tonight through Monday morning. Isolated severe t’storms will be possible with some of this activity.
•A level 1 to 3 severe t’storm risk is in place across Central and Southern Illinois from Monday morning through Tuesday morning. Isolated to scattered severe t’storms will be likely, posing a risk of large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes. Environmental conditions will be supportive of the possibility for occurrences of a strong tornado, damaging winds 75MPH+ or corridors of widespread/significant wind damage, and hail larger than 2.00”. Periods of rain and t’storms are expected from Monday morning through Tuesday morning. Severe t’storms are expected with activity throughout this period.
•A level 1 to 2 severe t’storm risk is in place across Eastern and Southern Illinois from Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening. Isolated to widely scattered severe t’storms will be likely, posing a risk of large hail, damaging winds, and an isolated tornado. Periods of rain and t’storms are expected from Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening. Severe t’storms is expected this activity throughout this period.
