Mon-Wed, Jan 8-10th Winter Storm

(10:15PM – Saturday, January  6th, 2024) A winter storm is expected to move through the region, impacting the state of Illinois from Monday afternoon through Wednesday morning. This winter storm will bring several inches of accumulating heavy-wet snow to portions of the state, as well as rain and gusty winds.

Timing…
•Monday Afternoon – Wednesday Morning, January 8-10th.

Location…
•Northern & Central Illinois.

Impacts…
•A winter storm will affect the state from Monday afternoon through Wednesday morning. Rain will be favored for most of the duration of the storm across Southern Illinois, while Central Illinois runs the rain/snow line, and Northern Illinois sees mostly snow for the duration of the storm.
•Snowfall accumulation of several inches is expected across much of Northern and portions of Central Illinois. The highest snowfall accumulation of 4-7” will be in a corridor across West-Central and Northern Illinois, with locally higher amounts possible.
•With marginal temperatures in place for the duration of the winter storm, this will be a heavy-wet and cement-like snow. This will also lead to some melting and compacting of the snow while the winter storm is ongoing.
•Wind gusts of 25-40MPH are expected with this winter storm as well, especially Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning.
