Heat Wave Begins Today as a Record Upper-Level Ridge Expands into the Region 🔥
Hotter conditions will overspread much of the state today as a record-strength upper-level ridge builds further into the Midwest. The hottest temperatures today will be across Northern Illinois, where afternoon highs will climb into the upper 80’s to mid 90’s.
The good news is that humidity levels will remain relatively manageable today, keeping peak heat index values below 100° for most locations.
While today marks the beginning of the heat wave, even hotter temperatures are expected through much of the upcoming week. Humidity levels may also increase a bit, potentially resulting in higher heat index values in some areas.
