(9:00AM – Wednesday, March 19th, 2025) Wednesday morning update on a potent storm system that will move through the region, which will bring a period of high synoptic winds across the state from this morning through Thursday morning.

Timing…
•This Morning – Thursday Morning, March 19-20th.

Location…
•All of Illinois.

Impacts…
•Peak high wind gusts of 40-50MPH will be likely across much of the state during this timeframe, with peak high wind gusts upward of 45-55MPH likely across Northwestern and Southwestern Illinois.
•Winds today will be southerly, with a shift to northwesterly for tonight and Thursday morning.
•The high winds will have the potential to blow around light-weight/loose items, and may cause isolated tree damage and power outages.

Update…
•With this update, little change was needed, as the going forecast is on track.

Discussion…
•As a potent storm system moves through the region, high synoptic winds will be likely across the state from this morning through Thursday morning. With a stronger lower-level jet in place and adequate atmospheric mixing, high winds will be likely across the state during this period. Winds today will be southerly, with a shift to northwesterly for tonight and Thursday morning, as the storm system passes.
