Sun-Thur, July 16-20th Severe T’Storm Episode Update #12

(10:30AM Thur, July 20th 2023) Thursday morning update regarding the final storm system of this active stretch, that is moving through the region today and tonight. This active pattern has been a product of the mean upper level flow sitting across the region, along the southern flank of mean troughing in Canada/Great Lakes, and along the northeastern periphery of a ridge in place across the Desert Southwest/Southern Plains. This pattern has supported a daily chance for rain/t’storms and severe t’storms across portions of the state during this period, with today being the final day of this period.

•With this update we have adjusted severe t’storm probabilities on today’s forecast, based on real time information, trends, and the latest model guidance.

•This Morning – Early Tonight, July 20th: East-Central & Southern Illinois.

Impacts…

•A level 1 to 2 severe t’storm risk is in place across East-Central and Southern, from this morning through early tonight. Isolated to widely scattered severe t’storms will be likely, posing a risk of damaging winds, large hail and an isolated tornado.
