Mon-Wed, May 20-22nd Severe T’Storm Event Update #4

(11:00PM – Monday, May 20th, 2024) Monday night update on a storm system will continue to move through the region, bringing several additional rounds of rain and t’storms, with the likelihood for severe t’storms, to portions of the state through Wednesday, May 22nd.

Update…
•With this update, we have removed all severe t’storm probabilities across the state for the remainder of tonight. The severe t’storm threat has come to an end for tonight.
•With this update, we have expanded severe t’storm probabilities into Southern Illinois on the severe t’storm forecast for Tuesday/Tuesday night. This change was made to take into account the possibility of severe t’storm potential continuing longer into Tuesday night and deeper into the state.
•With this update, we have issued our first severe t’storm forecast for Wednesday/Wednesday night.

Timing & Location…
•Tuesday Morning – Wednesday Morning, May 21-22nd: Much of Illinois.
•Wednesday Morning – Wednesday Night, May 22nd: Southern Illinois.

Impacts…
•A level 1 to 3 severe t’storm risk is in place across much of Illinois from Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning for the likelihood of isolated to scattered severe t’storms. Damaging winds, large hail, and a few tornadoes will be the threats with activity. Across the significant severe corridor… Environmental conditions will be supportive of the possibility of occurrences of damaging winds 75MPH+, corridors of widespread/significant wind damage, and hail larger than 2.00”. A round of widespread showers and t’storm will traverse the state from Tuesday evening through Tuesday night. A severe t’storm threat will exist across outlooked areas with this activity.
•A level 1 severe t’storm risk is in place across Southern Illinois from Wednesday morning through Wednesday night for the possibility of isolated severe t’storms. Damaging winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado will be the threats with activity. A weakening round of showers and t’storms will be exiting Southern Illinois early Wednesday morning. Another round of scattered showers and t’storms is then expected from Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night. An isolated severe t’storm threat will exist across outlooked areas with both periods of activity.
