Fri-Mon, April 27-29th Severe T’Storm Episode Update #3

(11:00AM – Friday, April 26th, 2024) Friday morning update on two storm systems that will move through the region, bringing several rounds of rain and t’storms, with the potential for severe t’storms, to portions of the state from today through Monday.

Update…
•With this update, we have expanded level 1 severe t’storm probabilities across much of Central and Southern Illinois on the severe t’storm forecast for today/tonight. With a very marginal environment that will be supportive for severe t’storms, short term guidance is supportive of the potential for isolated severe t’storms across this area.
•With this update, little in the way of change was needed on the severe t’storm forecast for Saturday/Saturday night.

Timing & Location…
•This Afternoon – Saturday Morning, April 26-27th: Northwestern, Central & Southern Illinois.
•Saturday Morning – Sunday Morning, April 27-28th: Northern & Western Illinois.
•Sunday Morning – Monday Morning, April 28-29th: TBD.
•Monday Morning – Monday Evening, April 29th: TBD.

Impacts…
•A level 1 severe t’storm risk is in place across Northwestern, Central, and Southern Illinois from this afternoon through Saturday morning for the possibility of isolated severe t’storms. Hail and damaging winds will be the threats with activity. Scattered showers and t’storms will traverse the state from this morning through Saturday morning. Some of this activity may be severe in the outlooked areas.
•A level 1 to 2 severe t’storm risk is in place across Northern and Western Illinois from Saturday morning through Sunday morning for the possibility of isolated to widely scattered severe t’storms. Large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes will be the threats with activity. Scattered showers and t’storms will traverse the state from Saturday morning through Sunday morning. Some of this activity may be severe in the outlooked areas.
•A severe t’storm threat will also exist on Sunday and Monday. More specific information regarding the potential on these days is to come in future updates.
