After a fairly warm and dry weekend across the state, the chance for thunderstorms and severe weather will return for Northern portions of the state today into tonight.
As of late this morning, a large area of rain and thunderstorms is currently ongoing across portions of Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota, tied to a disturbance moving through the region. This disturbance will likely promote re-development of new thunderstorms this afternoon across portions of Southern Minnesota down into Central Iowa. There seems to be good agreement on these storms congealing into a cluster of severe storms, and riding a warm front in place, into S. Wisconsin and N. Illinois by this evening. Given modest moisture and instability, severe storms will be possible across portions of Northern Illinois with this activity. Additional scattered thunderstorms will be possible behind the aforementioned main activity overnight and into Tuesday morning as well.
