An early season heatwave is settling in across the region, and will be affecting the state this weekend through this upcoming week.

A few areas managed to get near 90 and even into the low 90’s on Friday and Saturday. Today high temps into low 90’s were a bit more widespread, with some areas making it into the mid 90’s . Warmer temps in the mid-90’s will likely be more widespread the next few days, making it two of the warmer days during this stretch. Temps into the 90’s are likely to continue for most of the state through Friday, and possibly into next weekend for Southern portions of the state. Low temps will likely be in the mid 60’s to low 70’s during the period.

While several days of hot temps into the 90’s are expected, conditions will likely not reach oppressive or extreme levels. Moisture values will likely be at moderate levels at best during the period, which will help keep heat index values from reaching beyond the upper 90’s to around 100. Additionally, it does not appear that any records will be in jeopardy of being broken either.

There is the also the potential for some scattered thunderstorms during the week, especially across portions of Northern and Central Illinois. The overall threat is conditional, but could temper the heat in some areas should they occur, and potentially pose a severe weather threat. Should that occur additional updates will be provided.
