EMCWF Forecasted Temperatures Over the Next 5 Days

Today was a tranquil and chilly day due high pressure dominating the area. Another cold night is in store for the area, albeit not as frigid as last night. Expect lows in the upper single digits across the north with mid single digits across the south. As high pressure continues to lose its grip across the area, southwest flow will take over and deliver much warmer temps across Central IL mid week.Temperatures will continue to moderate through Thursday as Warm Air Advection (WAA) flows into the area in advance of an upper level trough pushing southeast from the northern plains. Highs will range from low 40s across the far north to upper 40s across the far south on Wednesday. Thursday will be the warmest day of the week with most places exceeding 50 °F and a few locations across the southwest likely approaching 60 °F.

EMCWF Showing Precipitable Water Values (PWATs) Steadily Advecting into Central IL Ahead of the Advancing Cold Front Thursday Night

As temperatures continue to warm, the atmosphere will begin to moisten due to a more humid southwest flow and continued snowmelt. There will be a chance for some drizzle or spotty showers over southeast portions of Central IL closer to I-70 tomorrow evening. Expect a very similar setup over the area Wednesday afternoon and evening. A better chance for rain will develop Thursday afternoon and evening ahead of the approaching cold front. In the wake of Thursday night’s cold front, much colder temperatures will settle into Central IL for Friday with much drier conditions.
